Guest: Kate McGlaughlin, author, Mommy, I’m Still In Here One Families Journey with Bipolar Disorder , discussed her and shared the challenges of parenting two children with Bipolar Disorder, She detailed the physical realities and the battered emotions they experience while caught in the storm of hallucinations, psychosis, mania, and suicide attempts. The book and its author offer hope and encouragement to anyone living with chronic illness or raising teens.  She covered the symptoms of the disorder, and described the usual victims.

Guest: Dr. Paula Pompa-Craven, Easter Seals Southern California Autism expert and Easter Seals client representative Richard Whitehorse, on behalf of his niece Alina [lives with autism and receives after-school services], were here to talk about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Autism, a developmental disability considered the result of a neurological condition affecting normal brain function, development and social interactions. Children/ adults with autism find it difficult or impossible to relate to other people in a meaningful way, may show restrictive and/or repetitive patterns of behavior or body movements, and often have some degree of mental retardation. While there is no known cause, cure or effective treatment, they stressed that great strides are being made.

Segment - III  11:45pm – 12:00am        

Guest: Hernand Vera, President and CEO of Public Counsel, discussed his agency’s quest to secure equal justice for clients who are the victims of consumer fraud and abuse. More than 1000 calls have come in to Public Counsel over the past year as more and more families have been threatened with foreclosure as interest rates on adjustable rate mortgages have risen and foreclosure fraud has increased. Vera is seeking more volunteer lawyers to help the elderly and families stay in their homes. He advised on homeowner’s rights and fighting foreclosure fraud and encouraged people to take immediate action if the find they are falling behind in their mortgage payments or seeing a coming rate increase.
