Guest: Chris DeRose, President and Founder of “Last Chance for Animals, discussed a variety of animal welfare issues including, the proliferation of pet theft rings, dog and cock fighting rings and their efforts to investigate and work through federal agencies to have the individuals in these operations prosecuted and jailed. He also talked about the problems of Puppy Mill’s operating in California. These operations breed animals in extremely deplorable conditions and sell them at high prices taking homes away from animals in shelters/pounds and rescue operations that could be adopted instead of being euthanized.

Guest: Dennis Washburn, Executive Director of the Foundation for Pierce College and Robert McBroom, Their Farm Center Director, discussed their Farmers Market and this years crop of baseball size strawberries along with oranges and avocados to the community. They also talked about their outreach to school children throughout LAUSD as a part of a nutritional campaign on healthy eating alternatives. The farm also provides refuge to all animals, horses and other creatures during Southland fire season. Proceeds benefit their farm for ongoing growth in areas of wildlife conservation, farming and other areas of agriculture.
