Guest: Thomas Lee, the program Director, Hillsides Youth Moving On program, along with two current residents, Randall Trice and Jamie and recent graduate Marcus Moss, were here to discuss Hillsides, a residential and community treatment center that creates safe places for children at risk and their families. They also provide emancipating foster youth a chance to become self-sufficient, responsible and caring adults by providing quality affordable housing & a comprehensive goal-directed program, in a supportive community.

LAFLA is the place that more than 2 million low-income people in LA turn when faced with a crisis which threatens their shelter, job security, health and well being, or livelihood. The organization is committed to promoting access to justice, strengthening communities, fighting discrimination, and effecting systems change through representation, advocacy, and community education.

Guest: Dr. Cynthia Wigal, Ph.D., Director of Clinical Trials at the Child Development Center, Department of Pediatrics, University of California, Irvine, discussed ADHD symptoms of inattention, such as the ability to focus and organize, as well as hyperactivity and impulsivity. Many people think of ADHD as only a childhood disorder but the fact is that the majority of children diagnosed with ADHD still have symptoms as an adult that  can significantly impact them at work, home and in relationships, where they have important responsibilities.

Guest: Debra Coleman, Families In Schools, discussed Feria del Libro: A Family Book fair, it’s a free family literary festival produced by the City of Los Angeles, Families In Schools, First 5 LA, LAUSD, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education.  The event includes over 200 booths with book vendors selling multicultural children’s books, storytelling, arts and crafts activities, music performances, dancing, a college corner, free tutoring information, and author book signings.
