Guest: Tod Lipka and Sarah Jakle from “Step-Up On Second”, discussed their mission which is in part to assist individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in developing opportunities to reintegrate into the community. The organization is dedicated to long-term support of people in recovery and their families, offering quality housing, educational, social and work experiences. Step-Up is also committed to increasing public understanding and acceptance of mental illness.

Guest: Luz Echavarria, the Director of the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportations “Watch the Road” Program, discussed the basic tenants of this public education/safety program which promotes safety awareness and is designed to appeal to motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians, combines a mass marketing educational campaign with a strong grassroots outreach. She also talked about the efforts to combat distracted driving and the Hands Free law that went into effect on July 1st.

Guest: Kashif, Music Producer/Writer as well as Founder and CEO of the iCare Foundation, discussed his humanitarian mission to raise awareness about foster care, an issue he knows a lot about because he grew up in foster care, shuttled from one abusive home to another - eight in total. Now in its third year, the iCare Foundation exists to enrich and improve the quality of life for children in foster care by providing educational programs and enrichment activities that develop supportive mentoring relationships. iCare will hold a 5k Walk/Run to promote a better life for America’s Most Vulnerable Children on July 28th
