Guest: Kate Kuykendall Public Affairs Specialist for the Los Angeles Peace Corps and Trish Eby a Volunteer who is Retired from Dept of Homeland Security. She is leaving for Belize on July 31st, where she will work as an NGO Advisor and also hopes to work on jewelry projects with women and children. The deuo discussed the Peace Corps’ new “50+ Initiative” to recruit Americans over the age of 50 to the Peace Corps. The initiative is seeking to raise the number of volunteers over 50 from the current level of 5% to 15%. Since Director Ron Tschetter launched this initiative last fall, applicants from people over 50 have jumped by 65%. This initiative taps into the upcoming wave of baby boomer retirees, a group that is really redefining what it means to retire.

Guest: David Wilson, CEO Of Right Angle, a full-service marketing and advertising agency, located in Lake Arrowhead, discussed the non-profits that benefit from the Lake Arrowhead Village Center Stage Entertainment and regular events they do there: Charities include: DOVE (Domestic Violence Victims). Upcoming in August will be a fundraiser for Operation Provider (they help low income families collecting AFDC or SSI, seniors living on a fixed income, homeless people - including teenagers, disabled people, and single parents, the working poor, struggling to make ends meet). He also provided insight into a Triathlon that will be put on to benefit Rebuilding Mountain Hearts and Lives (an organization that is still helping fire victims).

Guest: Ludmila Montoya, Director of Special Projects and Marilyn Green, Esq., from Cantrell Green Pekich Cruz & McCort, and Grand Cru Board Member, discussed the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) which is the oldest and largest, frontline law firm for more than 2 million low-income people in the greater Los Angeles area. For almost 80 years, LAFLA is the first place that thousands of low-income and poor people turn to when faced with a crisis which threatens their shelter, job security, health and well being, or livelihood. They also promoted the Foundations upcoming Fund raisng event, “The Long Beach Grand Cru”, a professionally judged wine competition in Long Beach.
